On Monday, August 10, 2020, the Kenowa Hills Board of Education approved our Fall 2020 Back to School Plan with an adjustment to the start of school schedule we had previously communicated. This adjusted schedule provides additional time to ensure all of our safety protocols are in place prior to full Face-to-Face instruction beginning.

Please read through this Back to School document thoroughly and as soon as possible. It contains the updated back to school schedule, as well as specific updates for both elementary and secondary (MS & HS) students, contact information for additional questions, and more.

As a reminder, all K-12 Parents must complete either the 100% Virtual form or the Face-to-Face form (if you have already completed a form, there is no need to complete a second one). This will allow us to finalize/adjust both class schedules and bus routes. THE DEADLINE TO RESPOND HAS BEEN EXTENDED GIVEN THE ADJUSTMENT TO THE START DATE. FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THURSDAY, AUGUST 13 at midnight. If you have signed up for Virtual or Face-to-Face, but want to change after reading our new schedule update, please call our administration building at 616-784-2511 no later than Thursday, August 13 at 4 pm.

One very timely update in the Back to School document is that registration events for both MS and HS students for August 12 & 13 have been rescheduled to August 25, 26 & 27 when Face-to-Face students are in the buildings for device materials distribution. This will allow us to re-balance classrooms based on the responses we have received from students moving to Virtual, and provide parents and students with more accurate schedules.

Thank you for your trust and support. We look forward to seeing each and every Knight in person or virtually this fall.

August 3, 2020:

Our Fall 2020 Back to School Plan is complete and ready for you to review. This plan is subject to change and is pending Board of Education approval on August 10th. Student and staff safety, education and family needs were significant factors in the development of our plan.

As mentioned last week, as long as we are able to implement face-to-face learning, we will have that offering for those parents who want their student(s) in the classroom. We know from our survey feedback that some parents want their children to learn from home this fall, and so we have our 100% Virtual option available for families as well.

Please click here to access our Fall Back to School Plan 2020 Summary document.

It provides you with your next steps as a KHPS parent, and also provides an overview of your options. Please read through the summary carefully, and any additional information that is linked within the document. While we tried to provide you this information in a clear and concise way, it is a complex process and will require time and attention to review. Please note, your response is required by Monday, August 10th regardless whether you choose online or face-to-face learning. Please access the Fall Back to School Plan 2020 Summary document (link above) to review the information and complete a short survey.

Because of the uncertainty of our State remaining in Phase 4, all parents choosing Face-to-Face should have a back-up plan for childcare should we move back to Phase 3 or COVID-19 outbreaks happen within our learning communities. Should this happen, students who are in our Face-to-Face option will move to Remote Learning. Remote Learning students will be taught online by their classroom teachers on a very structured daily schedule with attendance requirements, as well as grading and assessment.

If you have questions or need clarification before choosing the Face-to-Face option or the Virtual Option, please contact your building principal. We will be developing an FAQ document based on parent questions and feedback.

As you can imagine, building these plans and nearing their actual implementation has been very challenging for educators here and across the country. There is no perfect plan. At the same time, I assure you that although these times have brought challenges, they have also brought new opportunities and ways of thinking about educating our students. We are just as excited about the Fall of 2020 as we have been any other year. No matter what happens and what option you choose, we promise to make each day count.

Thank you for your trust and support. We look forward to seeing each and every Knight in person or virtually this fall.
